Melanie Fitzsimon – Centre Manager

In 2011 I decided to take the step to retrain in a new career after 11 years as an electronics engineer, I had grown tired of my job and wanted to start focusing on my health and nutrition, I loved cooking good food and was just discovering a new passion for running, after deciding to run the 2012 Great South Run. I thought I would love to be able to share my new found enthusiasm for nutrition and exercise so I signed up to do an Advanced Personal Training Diploma.

I gained my Gym Instructor qualification in May 2012,  I then went on to qualify as a Personal Trainer and completed Exercise Referral in 2013.

In January 2013 I started working at Sturfit Gym, then a few months later started helping with the administration of the Centre.  In August 2015 I was given the Centre Manager contract and I am now responsible for running the whole Centre. With the help of the Trustees, Gym Staff, Class Instructors and Volunteers, we are constantly working to improve the facilities for our members and ensure a happy environment for all.   We have an amazing community at the gym and its friendly atmosphere makes a day at work a pleasure. The feeling you get when you are able to help people is amazing and I would not trade that for anything.

My spare time usually consists of walking my dogs, training in the gym, swimming, cycling and running.  I have recently started entering swimming events, which I find an enjoyable way of pushing myself further in my training and helps keep me focused on the next goal.
