Melanie Fitzsimon – Casual Staff
In 2011 I decided to take the step to retrain in a new career after 11 years as an electronics engineer, I had grown tired of my job and wanted to start focusing on my health and nutrition, I loved cooking good food and was just discovering a new passion for running, after deciding to run the 2012 Great South Run. I thought I would love to be able to share my new found enthusiasm for nutrition and exercise so I signed up to do an Advanced Personal Training Diploma.
I gained my Gym Instructor qualification in May 2012, I then went on to qualify as a Personal Trainer and completed Exercise Referral in 2013.
In January 2013 I started working at Sturfit Gym, then a few months later started helping with the administration of the Centre. In August 2015 I was given the Centre Manager contract. In November 2022 I left the position of Manager to pursue some new challenges with the NHS and patient rehabilitation. I remain on the casual staff.
My spare time usually consists of walking my dogs, training in the gym, swimming, cycling and running. I have recently started entering swimming events, which I find an enjoyable way of pushing myself further in my training and helps keep me focused on the next goal.
