Sturfit is a charitable trust led by four volunteer Trustees who are responsible for providing community access to the Sturminster Newton Leisure Centre.
In November 2011 we took over the running of certain parts of the building at the times they are not required by the local schools under a temporary arrangement. Over the subsequent period the lease for the building has transferred from North Dorset District Council to the education authority (Dorset County Council).
Following a long period of interim arrangements, the county has recently issued a three year licence offering continuity to Sturfit to provide community access to the centre. Sturfit rely on the efforts of a group of volunteers to run the facility for the benefit of clubs and classes who book space for their activities. Some volunteers also sit on a working group which assists with day to day management of the centre as a whole.
