Regular gym-goers may know Laura Jones, who has been training all year in the SturFit community gym; she’s set herself a challenge so amazing that she’s inspired the whole SturFit team to get behind her. Laura took up running just last year – and immediately challenged herself to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in one year. Starting with one of the world’s most iconic marathons; London, carrying on to the world’s highest; Everest, and she’s recently completed the ‘marathon at the end of the world in Patagonia.
Next up is Australasia, then North America, and then the world’s coldest; The Yukon Arctic before finishing with Mt Kilimanjaro. Laura is raising money on behalf of two charities; the Jonny Wilkinson foundation, supporting mental health issues which have personal significance for her after the death of her father when she was just 13. She’s also raising money for the Scouts; an organisation which helps young people reach their full potential by offering them challenging activities, unique experiences and everyday adventure; a fitting match for Laura’s challenge.
The 7 to 7 Challenge – Charity Event
Can you run, row or cycle a mile? Then we need you!
Can you bake a cake – or eat cake? Then we need you too!
Totally inspired by Laura, the team at SturFit are determined to help her raise as much money as possible for her amazing #ICanRun7 challenge (every penny donated goes straight to her charities). And to that end we are closing the gym on the 2nd December for a challenge of our own. And we need everyone to join in!
In the space of 12hrs, we aim to clock up 1700 miles across all the gym cardio equipment. And we need fellow fundraisers to come and add their miles! If you usually go for a weekend run or cycle – come and give those miles to us instead! You can donate to join in, or you can take one of our sponsorship forms and raise money per mile yourself. Do 1 mile or 50 – everyone’s welcome!
And if exercising isn’t your thing – we still need you! Ahead of the event we’re in need of cake baking volunteers. And on the day? Come anyway! We need people to come and buy the cakes and cheer the miles along – and then there’s the stupendous raffle; top prize is a £400 Suunto Spartan Sports Watch, donated by Precor.
