The Trustees would simply like to send out an enormous thank you to everyone who came along to the Open Meeting yesterday evening in the Main Hall. It was genuinely great to see so many of you, and we hope you found it just as interesting.

Sturfit open meeting, Sturminster Newton Leisure Centre
Hopefully lots of good things came out of the meeting – things should be a lot clearer for our members and users in terms of how things work ‘behind the scenes’, and we certainly gained some insightful and useful suggestions and ideas from everyone present.

The agenda was wide and varied, and the discussions were really helpful. Roger & Nyree both gave us great presentations; I know I certainly nabbed one of Roger’s ‘free class’ leaflets (do give him a shout if you forgot to take yours!), and Nyree’s talk at the end, having been teaching her Wednesday class at the start of the night, has made me keen to give Pilates a try too.

It was great to hear from Mel that we already have a volunteer to head up the new ‘Users Group’ (thank you Deborah Perry!) – if you couldn’t make the meeting, but you’re keen to be part of the group which will be deeply involved in the future running of the centre then please do get in touch with Mel.

It was lovely to see such a mix of people – a whole range of ages and users came along.

The Membership Options discussion was excellent and provided some brilliant feedback for the Trustees, and some really good points were brought up in the open questions section for wider discussion too (yes, the resistance training machines in the gym are set to return as soon as possible!). There was also exciting news from Rob Norton around offering grants for Youth Organisations which could make a real difference locally – stand by for more news on that once the details have been set out.

Thank you again to all those who took time out of a lovely evening to attend – Sturfit is a very important resource for the whole community, and not only could we not run without you, but it would be pointless to do so; it’s your facility, and we really want it to serve as much of the community as possible.
We hope this is just the first step of many towards Sturfit’s future as an involved and active part of the community here in Stur; and if you missed last night’s meeting then don’t worry, we plan them to be a regular feature going forwards!
